Speed is not one measurement. Why 4U is a strong speed choice

4U often provides the best practical balance of quick handling, stable contact, repeated swings, defense and usable rear-court performance. Amateur doubles rotates frequently, so a racket must remain capable after the player moves backward. 4U also gives a reliable reference for deciding whether less mass actually helps.

When 5U works—and when it does not

5U can favor quick startup, front-court actions, body defense and flat exchanges. It becomes a mismatch when contact twists, rear-court depth falls, or the player compensates with excessive wrist and grip effort. Do not treat the entire class as unstable: compare actual frames.

Head light does not mean no power. It shifts the trade-off toward acceleration and recovery. Slightly head heavy may be better for a rotating player who wants faster overall handling without abandoning overhead pressure.

Do not judge balance only while holding the racket horizontally. Perform a short drive, stop the head, redirect it and then play a controlled lift. This sequence distinguishes easy startup from complete handling. The most useful defensive balance makes every phase predictable without forcing the player to squeeze the handle.

Does a stiff shaft make a racket faster?

A racket can look quick in a stationary feed but become difficult once footwork reduces preparation time. How to test a racket for speed and defense
