If you switch string model, keep the requested tension close to your last successful setup. Changing string and tension by a large amount at the same time makes the chart less useful because you cannot tell which variable changed the result.
String tension chart by racket type
Racket type is a tiebreaker, not a separate tension formula. Use the adjustment column only inside the range selected from the skill chart.

Badminton string tension chart questions
How should I read a badminton string tension chart?
Start with the row that matches your current playing level, then use the style and racket charts only to choose the lower or upper end of that range. The number is a starting target for your stringer, not a score or progression ladder.
Why do tension-chart ranges overlap?
Player labels are broad. Two club players can have different swing speeds, contact quality, rackets and comfort needs. Overlap lets a player choose the response that works on court instead of being forced into one number by a label.
What does 24 lbs mean on a stringing chart?
It is the requested reference tension used during stringing. The finished string bed can feel different across machines, stringers, rackets and string models, so compare 24 lbs most carefully when the rest of the setup stays the same.
Should I choose the top or bottom of my chart range?
Choose the bottom when you want easier length, more forgiveness or a safer first test. Choose the top only when contact is already consistent and you specifically want firmer feedback. When unsure, use the lower number.
Is the tournament row suitable for every competitive player?
No. Tournament describes an environment, not a required tension. Many competitive players can perform well below 28 lbs. Use 28 lbs or more only when it solves a known performance need and the exact racket safely permits it.
Why does a string chart give ranges instead of one exact number?
An exact recommendation needs information about the player, racket, string, stringer and previous setup. A chart is best at narrowing the decision quickly. Use the calculator or a controlled restring comparison when you need one starting number.
Can I use the string-type chart as a manufacturer tension limit?
No. The listed string ranges are editorial starting zones for player comparison, not product limits. The safe boundary comes from the instructions for the exact racket model and an inspection of the frame and grommets.
Why is the doubles range slightly higher than the singles range?
The chart reflects the direct response many established doubles players prefer for drives and blocks. It is not a rule. A doubles player who needs help with rear-court length or late defensive lifts should use the lower end.
Do I add the racket and playing-style adjustments together?
No. Do not stack every adjustment. Pick a base range from skill, then use the most important secondary chart as a tiebreaker. Several reasons to go higher do not justify exceeding your ability or the racket limit.
Should I change tension for summer and winter?
Only if the same setup repeatedly behaves differently in your normal seasonal conditions. First let the racket acclimatize and avoid extreme storage. If a change is needed, one pound is a more useful test than a large seasonal jump.
Can two rackets strung at the chart's same number feel different?
Yes. Frame stiffness, head shape, string-bed area, grommet pattern, string model and stringing process all affect the response. Record the complete setup rather than treating the tension number as a universal feel rating.
When should I ignore the chart?
Ignore it when the exact racket instructions set a lower boundary, the frame or grommets are damaged, pain is present, or a qualified stringer identifies a safety concern. Equipment condition always outranks a general chart.
